Gary Neville Urges Glazers to Sell as Manchester United Crisis Deepens
Gary Neville has called on Manchester United’s Glazer family owners to sell their stake as the club struggles through a poor start to the season. Michael Carrick will remain in charge for now, but his position is under intense pressure ahead of the Premier League visit to Chelsea.
Neville calls for Glazers to leave Manchester United
Gary Neville has urged Manchester United’s Glazer family owners to sell their stake in the club, intensifying the pressure surrounding a team enduring a difficult start to the season.
In remarks reported by Yahoo Sports, the former United captain said “enough is enough” and called for the Glazers to leave the club completely. The family has remained United’s majority owner since taking control in 2005, despite selling a minority stake to Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group in 2024.
Carrick remains under scrutiny
United have lost two of their opening three Champions League matches and are facing a crucial Premier League trip to Chelsea. Manager Michael Carrick is under heavy pressure, but the club has decided to give him more time, according to The Athletic.
Carrick’s position appeared seriously threatened after United’s 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth, their second successive loss by a three-goal margin. The result extended the club’s winless run in all competitions to eight matches and left United with seven Premier League points after eight games, their lowest total at that stage in 40 years, The Athletic reported.
The club’s hierarchy, including Ratcliffe, chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, met on Monday and opted against an immediate managerial change. Carrick’s future is now being assessed on a game-by-game basis ahead of the Chelsea fixture, according to The Washington Post.
The latest ownership intervention from Neville adds another layer to United’s crisis, with sporting results, stadium plans and the club’s direction all under renewed scrutiny.
