Timberwolves make stunning move for LaMelo Ball
The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired LaMelo Ball from the Charlotte Hornets in a blockbuster deal reported Saturday, according to Basketball Sphere, which cited ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
Minnesota reportedly sent Naz Reid, an unprotected 2033 first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps and three second-round selections to Charlotte. Josh Green was also included in the deal, the report said.
The move represents a major change for both franchises. Charlotte reportedly no longer viewed Ball as its long-term centerpiece, while Minnesota added a high-profile guard at the cost of significant future draft capital.
The report did not provide further details about Ball’s role, Minnesota’s lineup plans or the timing of his debut.
Other roster activity
The same report said the Hornets waived Pat Connaughton and that the Los Angeles Clippers brought back Cam Christie on a two-way contract.
It also reported that the Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies were exploring additional trades ahead of the 2026-27 season. Milwaukee had discussed Caris LeVert, Kevin Porter Jr. and Jericho Sims, while Memphis was exploring the market for GG Jackson II and Walter Clayton Jr.
Those discussions were described as exploratory rather than completed transactions.
