The main football markets
Match result (1X2)
4 min
The 1X2 market — also called match result or full-time result — is the headline football bet. It's a three-way market because of the draw.
The three outcomes
- 1 — the home team wins.
- X — the match ends in a draw.
- 2 — the away team wins.
Each gets its own price. Unlike basketball's two-way moneyline, you can lose a 1X2 bet on the home win even when your team doesn't lose — a draw beats it.
Reading the prices
Shorter odds mean a more likely outcome. A strong home favourite might be 1.50 (the 1), the draw 4.20 (the X), and the underdog 6.50 (the 2). Those prices map back to implied probability — the topic of the next chapter.
Double chance and draw no bet
Because the draw makes 1X2 harder, two softer variations exist:
- Double chance — back two of the three outcomes at once (e.g. "home win or draw"). Safer, but at much shorter odds.
- Draw no bet — if the match is drawn, your stake is returned. It removes the draw risk for a price.
These trade payout for safety. They're useful tools, not free wins — the bookmaker prices the reduced risk in.
